One of my favorite events of the year is upon us: San Diego Comic Con. While originally an event bringing together Comic Book lovers and geeks alike premiering all kinds of goodies, Comic Con has turned into a full blow star studded event. What comes with that? Let’s say it together: MAJOR FASHION MOMENTS.
This is no longer an ordinary convention where a cute top and skinny jeans is acceptable: it’s Dior or bust, people. Round up are some of the stand out looks from the convention— there were even more but I had to put my foot down somewhere.
So take a look, sound off, and enjoy!
Jennifer Lawrence, Louis Vuitton- “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” Panel
Possibly the Queen of Comic Con, Jennifer Lawrence made her first stop in a beachy yet Goth Louis Vuitton cut out floor length dress with exaggerated pockets and beachy waves. I generally jump for joy whenever the Oscar winner isn’t wearing Dior (more downtown brands suit her, as far as I am concerned), and while the LV look has a nice balance of classy and youth, I am not 100% sold. I think it’s length; feels too dressy for the daytime event and the event itself.
Jennifer Lawrence, Prabel Gurung- “X-Men: Apocalypse” Panel
This is more like it. Ms. Lawrence (seen here with one of my role models/icons, Marvel chairman and amazing human being Stan Lee) sported a killer Prabel Gurung White jumpsuit with pleating detail and billow sleeves topped off with sleek locks and dainty Gold jewelry. Rivaling her other Prabal look (below), this is easily one of my favorite offerings from Ms.Lawrence during her Comic Con run.
Can’t help but think those Blue nails are a nod to her X-Men character Mystique. Devil is in the details, my friends!
*FYI: Ms.Lawrence sported the same simple sandals as her below Prabel look and it was chic.
Jennifer Lawrence, Calvin Klein- Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
Sporting yet another White ensemble, this time a Calvin Klein body con mini, Ms.Lawrence showed off her killer legs topped off with strappy Silver sandals and matching bag. Yet another winning look, and you know why: because it’s simple and modern. Ms.Lawrence does best when there’s no bells and whistles.
Looking all kinds of sexy and ladylike Ms.Lawrence popped by Conan O’Brien’s late night show in a killer Black Giambattista Valli dress for his (hysterical) Comic Con special. I love everything about this look, particularly because she is giving us Movie Star Realness. Flawless, head to toe.
Jennifer Lawrence, Prabel Gurung- Comic Con Press
Ending Comic Con on a high note, Ms.Lawrence sported a body con Prabel Gurung dress with lace up slit, simple sandals, Movie Star Dior sunnies, and those glossy locks. You can tell the blonde bombshell was having fun with Fashion as every look she presented was met with sophistication and confidence. Also, another (well done) nod to Mystique.
Halle Berry, Marios Schwab- “Extant” Panel
Jennifer’s once “X-Men: Days of Future Past” co-star wore a pleated ruby Red Marios Schwab dress with decorative Navajo necklace, unnecessary bangle’s, and what looks like an ombre mop. I am sincerely disappointed in this entire look. Remember when Halle Berry had the best Red Carpet mojo? Sigh…
Angela Bassett- Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
Striking the right level of sophistication, Angela Bassett rocked a Black and White silk printed blouse with tapered pants, decorative peep-toes, and side swept locks. I am a very big fan of Ms.Bassett but sometimes she lets me down in both the hair and shoe department. This is a victory as far as I’m concerned.
Sarah Paulson, Suno- Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
Ms.Bassett’s “American Horror Story” co-star Sarah Paulson donned a cut out Black Suno dress with Silver accessories and upswept 80’s hair. As much as I adore Ms.Paulson, that hair is a little (a lot) too severe. The closed toed pumps are killing me— it’s Summer! Maybe she didn’t have time for a pedicure…in that case, thanks, Girlfriend.
Matt Bomer- Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
Rounding out the “American Horror Story” cast on the Red Carpet was Prince Eric, er…I mean, Matt Bomer in a gorgeous navy patterned suit paired with crisp white kicks. The balance of how dressy his Zegna suit is compared to the casual sneakers is a little too stark for me, but I applaud his efforts for not taking his usual 100% classic route. Also, I mean, he is so gorgeous….why is he even wearing clothes to begin with?
Willa Holland- Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
I can’t fathom how “Arrow” beauty Willa Holland is wearing leather in San Diego in July, but she looks super sexy and I love her plumed clutch. I don’t even mind that sliver of skin she is showing; it’s fresh looking rather than tacky. Props for the choppy bob.
Jamie Alexander, Elisabetta Franchini and Rebecca Minkoff- Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
“Thor” stunner Jamie Alexander looked festive in a Rebecca Minkoff crisp blazer and bandeau top paired with a Elisabetta Franchini sequin multi-directional skirt and simple Saint Laurent sandals. Combined with a sleek short cut and simple gold choker, this is an all around gorgeous look for the raven haired actress. I think she just got back in my Red Carpet graces.
Lea Michele, Jonathan Simkhai- “Scream Queens” Panel
Lea Michele could rival Jennifer Lawrence for how many Red Carpet’s she showed up to at Comic Con. While those Louboutin’s are gorgeous in color and design, they feel wildly out of place with her mall-girl Jonathan Simkhai look. Nothing about this is good for me.
In addition, those bangs have got to go. I am confusing her with a trampy Rachel from “Glee” rather than actress Lea Michele.
Emma Roberts, Tanya Taylor- “Scream Queens” Panel
Looking bored to tears, Lea’s “Scream Queens” co-star Emma Roberts sported a swingy Tanya Taylor printed number with contrast yoke and equally gorgeous Louboutins. Maybe it’s the deep, deep part of Emma’s (fake looking) blonde hair but I am not into this look either. Little heavy feeling for Summer.
Emma Roberts, Awaveawake- 20th Century Fox Party
Slipping into a slinky mauve number, and finally realizing what a smile is, Ms.Roberts Awaveawake dress was a balance of formal and vintage. I love she swept her hair back, but wish she’d have ditched that old lady looking top handle clutch thing. It looks like a very slim lunchbox.
Lea Michele, Zimmermann- 20th Century Fox Party
Skin tight and below the knee, Lea Michele’s Zimmermann Black and White dress was much more fitting for the petite actress. While I don’t love the multi-colored strappy sandals with this particular look, Ms.Michele is on her shoe A-game. She just needs to know how to pair them with the right frock. The bangs are OK here, only because her blow out is really good. I am still not on board…he needs to take a lesson from Caitlyn Jenner.
Lea Michele, Zuhair Murad- Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
Finally ditching the bangs, Ms.Michele looked amazing in her sexed up scarlet Zuhair Murad short suit. Giving us something fresh and different from the Scream Queen, tailored but youthful is what Ms.Michele should go for more. Hair, heels, and make-up are perfectly complimentary. If I had one complaint, it would be she should have sported either a bustier or a bandeau— very little is being left to the imagination.
Must she make these faces on Red Carpets? Does she not realize that these pictures run forever?
Keke Palmer- “Scream Queens” Photocall
It’s a good thing Keke Palmer is gorgeous because her Fuchsia parachute pants look like they are going to take flight. This is bordering on Fashion victim while trying to be “Fashion-y.” Yawn.
Emma Roberts, Line & Dot- “Scream Queens” Photocall
Of all Ms.Roberts looks, I am most taken with her off the shoulder bustier kicky patterned Line & Dot Black and White dress paired with cherry nudist heels. Her hair continues to be problematic though…
Lea Michele, Tanya Taylor- “Scream Queens” Photocall
Oh look, the bangs are back…as is another Mall Girl outfit…
Skyler Samuels- “Scream Queens” Photocall
Sykler Samuels may be the best dressed Scream Queen of the bunch in a simple Black and White printed wrap dress. The nude shoes are a bit of an eye sore (YSL Trib’s? Really?), but her beachy strawberry waves and Red lip are balancing out the look. Her skin is like porcelain, geeze.
Billie Lourd- “Scream Queens” Photocall
Billie Lourd’s navy cut out dress is nice enough but those chunky, chunky heels are killing me…she has nice hair though, very Connie Britton which is why I’m sure she was cast in a Ryan Murphy production.
Abigail Breslin- “Scream Queens” Photocall
Did Abigail Breslin borrow her outfit from the “Grease 2” costume department?
Jamie Lee Curtis – “Scream Queens” Photocall
All I can imagine is Jamie Lee Curtis said “I’m light years cooler than these flash in the pan broads,” as soon as this picture was taken before swigging back a beer. Easily the baddest one of the whole bunch. I cannot wait for her bound to be epic iconic performance on “Scream Queens.”
Bella Heathcote, Rodarte- “Pride and Prejudice and Zomies” Panel
One of my favorite outfits at Comic Con, Bella Heathcote (I have no idea who she is) wore a gorgeous comic book-esque sparkly Rodarte number that was very fitting for the event. Her lace up heels were a nice addition to her Fashion forward look. Can’t help but wish this was saved for someone else, but, she is rocking it.
Bella Heathcote, Gucci – Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
Next up for Ms.Heathcote was a goth but girly Gucci vampy lacy top with pleated mustard leather skirt and another pair of lace up’s. I wasn’t too keen on this Gucci collection, but Ms.Heathcote is making it work.
Lily James, Victoria Victoria Beckham- “Pride and Prejudice and Zomies” Panel
Looking very English, English actress Lily James donned a Victoria Victoria Beckham high neck Pink patterned dress with nipped waist and sexy slit. Can’t say I’m much a fan of Ms.James newly dyed and chopped locks, but let’s hope it’s for a film and she reverts back to a honey hue soon.
Lily James, Altuzarra- Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
Ms.James switched gears (for the better) at the Entertainment Weekly party in a sparkly Altuzarra number that was perfect for the gorgeous actress. Here I don’t mind the hair— maybe it’s the way it was styled? Her make-up is also much better than at the panel.
Amy Adams, Roland Mouret – “Batman VS Superman” Panel
Even at Comic Con Amy Adams delivers sophistication, class, and elegance in a stunningly classic multi-fabric and print Black and White Roland Mouret off the shoulder number topped off with nude Bionda Castana lace up heels (which I wish were Red). Lois Lane let her fiery locks down in modern yet Old Hollywood curls and barely there make-up.
Gal Gadot, Cushine et Ochs- “Batman VS Superman” Panel
Our future Wonder Woman (no pressure, Gal) gave body realness at Comic Con this weekend. Note sure how much I’m feeling Gal Gadot’s Cushnie et Ochs separates as they feel a bit dated, but there’s no denying how amazing her figure is which clearly was the point here. Those crisp Louboutin’s are overkill though; a gorgeous summer-y color could have been preferred or at least an opened toed White sandal.
Jamie Lee Curtis- 20th Century Fox Party
Ms.Lee Curtis looked lovely in a Black Kimono inspired dress with nude heels and minimal accessories. She’s had the same haircut for 20 years and it still looks fresh.
Jamie Lee Curtis- Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
Swinging by the hottest party at Comic Con, Jamie Lee’s stuck to Black in a body con 3/4 sleeve number curving all the right places giving the legend an air of confidence. Only complaint would be the shoes as they get lost in the carpet. An opened toed Black peep toe would have done.
Ryan Reynolds- 20th Century Fox Marvel Panel
Ryan Reynolds, yet again, is showing us how to do a modern Menswear look that is cool but casual and all kinds of handsome. His dark denim and buttery leather jacket paired with crisp white Cons is a perfect look. That combo of tan and smile could stop traffic.
Channing Tatum- 20th Century Fox Marvel Panel
Love the shirt, hate the hair, burn the jeans.. How is his wife so stylish and not advise him?
Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas- “Once Upon a Time” Panel
For the life of me I cannot tell you what is going on with Ginnifer Goodwin’s look, but hubby Josh Dallas’s button down polo and dark denim combo with those Stan Smith kicks is pretty cool. Doesn’t hurt he’s rather pretty himself. Remember when Ginny rocked gorgeous frocks like this? WHERE HAS SHE GONE!?!
Ashley Madekwe, Saint Laurent- Entertainment Weekly Comic Con Party
While I applaud Ashley Madekwe for taking on the brave task of wearing C-3P0 as a dress, between mixing the Gold of her Saint Laurent and the Silver of her heels it’s all too much. We’ve also seen this dress many a time on the Red Carpet and it resembles a 2009 Balmain look far too much. Feels stale. Great hair and make-up though.
Jessica Chastain, Preen- “Crimson Peak” Panel
Much like Ms.Adams, one of the finest actress’s working today who one day will win an Oscar, AKA Jessica Chasten, was ladylike and sophisticated in a multi-colored lacy Preen number and bouncy curls. I do wish the skirt had been shortened above the knee and an open toed sandal swapped for those clunky heels, but it’s still a great look. The Red talons were a nice addition.
Tom Hiddleston- “Crimson Peak” Panel
Tom Hiddleston continues his love story of Grey and Blue’s this time offering a casual but cool offering with a heathered blazer and a great tan. Again, a perfectly laid back yet sophisticated Menswear look.
Jamie Bell-“Fantastic Four” Panel
Jamie Bell apparently shrugged and pulled a Fall ensemble from the back of his closet ten minutes before this Red Carpet. Cool kicks.
Michael B. Jordan-“Fantastic Four” Panel
Not shying away from showing how dapper he is, Michael B.Jordan gave us another handsome look in a gorgeous Blue suit and Gucci shoes. Can’t say I’m much a fan of those Gold chains or Miami Vice-esque Black crew neck though.
Kate Mara, Valentino-“Fantastic Four” Panel
Apparently Kate Mara is joining the Lost Boys because’s she’s chopped off all her hair and dyed it an unfortunate shade of Brown. Remember when she had a great choppy ombre bob? I can’t help but wish someone with a bit more Red Carpet pizzazz sported this gorgeous Valentino. Ms.Mara is totally off her game and has shown no signs of recovery…
Toby Kebell- “Fantastic Four” Panel
Toby Kebell looked classic cool in a leather and White T combo, a la James Dean. Can’t go wrong here.
Miles Teller- “Fantastic Four” Panel
Miles Teller: the new face of Tommy Bahama.
