Hi Everyone,
Long time no see! Apologies all around, The New York Narrative has been a little slammed recently— finding a new apartment, travelling for work, vacationing, being fabulous— things any true New Yorker understands. But we’re back!
Figured the best way to get back into the swing of things was to do what we do best here serving up some sass the best way we know how: critiquing the Fashion choices of (some of) our brightest stars.
So take a look, sound off, thanks for staying with us, and enjoy what is supposed to be a gorgeous weekend!

Elizabeth Olsen, Miu Miu- Miu Miu Fragrance Launch and Croisiere 2016 Collection
Elizabeth Olsen’s incredibly chic Red Carpet appearances are going nowhere as the Scarlet Witch herself donned a sexy yet sweet midnight Miu Miu billowy sleeved mini featuring an adorned ruffled collar paired with complimentary sparkly sandals and seafoam clutch also by the Italian brand.
Lizzie had a bit of a Marilyn moment when the Parisian wind blew her pleated skirt up, but she handled it like a pro and proved what we already knew: she has killer legs.
What makes this look so appealing is the effortlessness in both styling and approach. Ms.Olsen’s hair has a great natural wave— and is at that super “cool girl” length— with her make-up dewy and fresh. Winning look all around. I am already dying for her “Captain America: Civil War” promo looks.
Jennifer Lawrence, Antonio Berardi- “The Hunger Games” NYC Exhibition Opening
From one gorgeous blonde to the next, Jennifer Lawrence looked beachy and sexy at an event honoring “The Hunger Games” incredible costume and sets in NYC. The Oscar Winner’s extensions are finally under control and look incredibly well tamed. Ms.Lawrence’s street style game as also been on point, so check it out. Bravo, Katniss— keep this up, please!
Lupita Nyongo, Dior- Dior Fall 2015 Couture Front Row
Lupita Nyongo style continues to confuse me— it’s all over the place, sometimes being chic and sometimes making us go, “Huh?” Her flame hued Dior mini is missing about two inches off the hem preventing this from being a showstopping classic look. With a great fit and flare, the Oscar Winner should have gone in the classic Dior direction rather than try to show off her pins. Props for those great sunnies though.
Emily Blunt, Dior- Dior Fall 2015 Couture Front Row
Hopefully the future Captain Marvel Emily Blunt also attended the Parisian Runway show in a peplum-esque crisp White dress paired with hounds-tooth heels, a navy clutch, gorgeous throwback Veronica Lake waves, and dark nails. This may not be the most exiting look, and I’m wishing her dress stopped just above her knee, but there’s no denying she’s giving us “Old Hollywoood I’m a Movie Star” Realness.
Amber Heard, Miu Miu- Miu Miu Fragrance Launch and Croisiere 2016 Collection
Mrs. Johnny Depp— AKA Amber Heard AKA “Magic Mike XXL” leading lady…yes, I just said that— wore a gorgeous embellished shoulder deep V flowy and sheer Miu Miu confection paired with side swept hair and perfect make-up. The looks is 100% appealing but those shoes are not…did she borrow them from Annie Pott’s secretary character in “Ghostbusters?”
Jessica Alba, Giambattista Valli- M.A.C. Cosmetics and Giambattista Valli Floral Obsession Ball
I am hit or miss with Jessica Alba and lately, it’s been 100% a hit. Styled by former Rachel Zoe protege Brad Goreski, Ms.Alba has really hit her stride in Fashion: case in point this elegant color and pattern blocked Giambattista Valli gown. There isn’t much else to say other than her bob is styled perfectly and she is glowing. That tan too is drool worthy.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Dior- Dior Fall 2015 Couture Front Row
If Rosie Huntington-Whiteley strolls up to a Red Carpet, just go home. I mean it. Really, just go home. The girl is flawless.
Wearing what could be the cutest— and sexiest— tennis ensemble ever, the “Mad Max Fury Road” bombshell showed off her killer stems in her cool girl Glamazon offering paired with perfect waves and modern sunnies. I am in awe of how effortlessly sexy she looks here.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Versace- Versace 2015 Front Row
Next up for the model turned actress was a Boudoir inspired Versace with the same hair as her Dior appearance and an interesting wreath choker. Of all Rosie’s looks, I like this the least. It reads far too lingerie and is basically the same dress as her amfaR Paris look, so why bother?
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Versace- amfaR Paris
This is much more like it. Donning the same silhouette, this time in a multi-colored velvet print, Ms.Huntington-Whiteley struck sexy and sweet in her Versace stunner. The velvet covered boning on the cut out is really gorgeous, almost like a modern corset and a bit astrological.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Alexandre Vauthier- Vogue Paris Gala
Ending in Black, her Alexandre Vauthier business up top sex on the bottom seems to be made for her. Actually, I’m sure it was…anyone else want to be here when you grow up?
Kate Hudson, Louis Vuitton- The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party
Forgetting how to stand on a Red Carpet, Kate Hudson caught her balancing (in Louboutin’s, no less) in a sleeveless Black and White Louis Vuitton sequin look. While I appreciate the minimal approach, I cannot say I am a fan overall— especially the center front zipper. There’s no denying though, Penny Lane has some pretty enviable pins.
Lopping off her signature Bohemian waves for a film, Ms.Hudson is rocking a nice shoulder length look, but those roots…I mean…I am always one for a dark root but they are Black. I really hope Ms.Hudson goes for a warmer honey hue soon. She usually blows me away, and I cannot say I am impressed at the moment.
Debra Messing- Watch What Happens Live! Taping
Debra Messing apparently bought her ensemble for Watch What Happens Live at Party City, because everything from her Lucille Ball inspired glasses to those heinous White pumps is screaming costume. Also, is she wearing a Little Mermaid wig? Why is she Orange? I have so many questions…oh, Grace…
Caitlyn Jenner- “An American in Paris” Broadway Show
The New York Narrative is a very big supporter of the courageous and brave Caitlyn Jenner. Generally Paparazzi photos (unless a street style segment) are off limits, but, Ms.Jenner’s style needed a spotlight for a moment.
Attending the theater Ms.Jenner wore a 3/4 length sleeve electric Blue lacy number with a classic shoulder bag, perfect blowout, and complimentary slingbacks. And who says no one dresses for the theater anymore?
Caitlyn Jenner, Pat Field Collection- Shopping at Pat Fields on The Bowery
Having much more fun on the Bowery (how could she not at Pat Field’s?), Caitlyn paired an exaggerated shoulder blazer with a Pride filled sequin skirt and tonal sequin top. The fun didn’t stop here as she also carried a pin-up lady clutch rounding out a very, very sassy look. I can’t get over how perfect her blowout is.
Caitlyn Jenner, Diane Von Furstenberg- Shopping in SoHo
Going from quirky to ladylike, Ms.Jenner wore a classic signature DVF leopard wrap dress paired with a chain handle shoulder bag.
Caitlyn Jenner, Herve Leger- Dinner in NYC
Rounding out her week of looks on a chic note, Caitlyn enjoyed dinner with friends in a Black Herve Leger zipper front top and signature skirt paired with a classic Silver clutch.
Now I’ll say it: will someone please send Ms.Jenner a new pair of heels? I am sure those slingbacks are comfy, but girl, come on! We need some variation from you!
Amber Heard, Temperly London- Bvlgari Haute Couture and Coctail Party
No, it’s not the Witches of Eastwick but three gorgeous gals in Black. Ms. Heard’s Bvlgari jewelry, metallic sandals, and pinned up hair are all rather chic but that dress is a snooze. If you’re wearing a serpant around your neck, shouldn’t you really bring it?
Elizabeth Olsen, Dior- “Avengers: Age of Ultron” Tokyo Premiere
Continuing the chic streak that is Lizzie Olsen, the beautiful blonde promoted “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (yet again) this time in Tokyo with a little help from a Faux Iron Man and Captain America. They weren’t dressed in a beyond stunning Black taffeta Dior Haute Couture gown, but Ms.Olsen was. Paired with jaw dropping Dior fine jewelry, Dior color blocked heels, and an influenced french twist (check out Lizzie’s adventures in Tokyo with her genius hair stylist Mark Townsend), this was another home run.
Elsa Pataky- 2015 Elle Gourmet Awards
From one Avenger to the next (kind of)…Mrs.Thor rocked a see through slashed Black long sleeved mini and, quite frankly, dated sparkly Jimmy Choo sandals. Great hair and make-up is about the only good thing I can say of the Spanish beauty’s look…
Naomi Watts, Armani- Armani Prive Fall 2015 Front Row
As a fan of Naomi Watt’s work and style, it was refreshing to see the talented actress rocking a new look: a platinum blonde bob. A refreshing change for Ms.Watts who either goes baby blonde or more warm. The overall effect works with her lacy White Armani dress and clutch. While this isn’t my favorite look, it’s nice enough but those shoes have got to go. They look like something an old lady with swollen ankles would wear.
Ke$ha- Rehab Pool Party
Apparently Ke$ha put her head in a public toilet ten minutes before this Red Carpet. This was the result.
Jessica Alba, Tory Burch- Tory Burch Event
This may not be everyone’s cup of tea— and I am even surprising myself here— but I’m digging Ms.Alba’s funky long sleeve Tory Burch dress. Maybe it’s because her hair is back and she never does that, but it’s a pretty good look. Kudo’s, Dark Angel.
Julia Roberts, Givenchy- Lancome 80th Anniversary Celebration
No surprise as the face of Givenchy, Julia Roberts, wore a killer playsuit and oversized blazer by the French brand. It may not be the most exciting look but there’s no denying she looks every bit the Movie Star in the most effortless way possible. Signature wavy locks and “hey, I have nicer legs than most 25 year old’s” rounded out her boy meets girl offering.
Penelope Cruz, Pucci- Lancome 80th Anniversary Celebration
Taking a cue from Ms.Roberts, Penelope Cruz also wore Black by way of a form fitting lace panel Pucci halter gown. I want to like this more, but it looks like the solid panel in front is a censor bar for her private parts.
I appreciate her hair length as nothing makes me happier than Mermaid Locks, but it’s looking a little ratty. I wish she used Caitlyn Jenner’s hair salon for her blowout…
Kate Winslet, Alaia- Lancome 80th Anniversary Celebration
Taking a more conservative approach, one fourth of the Oscar Winning crew Kate Winslet wore a signature Alaia mini letting her gorgeous face and killer earrings do all the talking. Safe peep-toes finished her “just OK” look.
Lupita Nyongo, Prada- Lancome 80th Anniversary Celebration
This is the Lupita I want: give us glamour 24/7, please! Dripping in sequin, Ms.Nyongo’s liquidy Silver gown is just what she needed to redeem herself after her puzzling Dior. I much prefer her hair here.
Kylie Minogue- Departing for Lancome 80th Anniversary Celebration
Other than wanting to be Rosie Huntington-Whiteley when I grow up, I also wouldn’t mind being Kylie Minogue. The 47 year old entertainer has never looked better and even when she’s wearing a borderline tacky dress (see above) I’m still in love. This multi-colored dress is absurd, and I’m still living for it.
Kylie Minogue- Vintage Anthony Price Lancome 80th Anniversary Celebration
The Australian beauty rocked a metallic vintage Anthony Price pleated and fanned dress with matching Givenchy platforms and beachy waves. Kylie was around in the 80’s so it wouldn’t surprise me if she pulled this from the back of her closet, did a hair flip, and threw it on. Fits like a glove and matches her personality perfectly: sexy and fun.
Kylie Minogue, Jean Paul Gaultier- Lancome 80th Anniversary Celebration Concert
Performing at the event Ms.Minogue chose a fringed and cut out geometric creation by buddy Jean Paul Gaultier topped off with another set of platforms (she’s 5’0″) and more beachy waves. As far as performance outfits go, it’s just what it should be— appealing, unique, and totally over the top.
Emilia Clarke, Dior- “Terminator: Genesis” Toyko Premiere
Emelia Clarke, unfortunately, has the pleasure of promoting (the apparently horrific) “Teminator: Genesis” and in the process somehow chose a 50’s housewife-esque dress in the Dior closet that is a tad too overwhelming for her petite frame. Plus side is Red is absolutely her color. Why is she making that face?
Kate Moss, Miu Miu- Miu Miu Fragrance Launch and Croisiere 2016 Collection
As someone who loves Kate Moss, I really do, I have nothing nice to say here…
Cara Delevingne, Dion Lee- “Paper Towns” Australian Premiere
The style rollercoaster that is Cara Delevingne took a lovely turn at the “Paper Towns” Aussie premiere. Teal is one of my favorite colors and is not worn nearly enough so I couldn’t be happier to see the model turned actress in a Dion Lee body con dress featuring a net overlay. Ms.Delevingne’s hair color is being referred to has “bronde” at the moment, and whatever color it is, paired with interesting eye make-up and that teal hue it’s all working.
Meg Ryan, Schiaparelli- Schiaparelli Fall 2015 Front Row
Well look who’s back and looks better than she has in long time! Meg Ryan sauntered down Schiap’s signature Pink carpet in a body con long sleeved kicky Schiaparelli dress with signature waves, Movie Star sunnies, and gorgeous open toed sandals. I haven’t seen a Meg Ryan look I’ve liked in forever (possibly ever) so this is beyond a treat. The signature of Schiap Pink satin lining peeking out melts my heart.
Michael B.Jordan, Sandro- BET Awards
Continuing the Teal trend, Michael B. Jordan looked like an absolute stud rocking a Sandro Blue and Teal slim fit suit. Mr. Jordan is always a fun one to watch on the Red Carpet because he obviously enjoys Fashion and actually pulls it off. I’d absolutely mug him for this whole look…those shoes are to die…
Sandra Bullock, Roksanda- “Minions” LA Premiere
Could Sandy Bullock have taken a more chic and fun approach to dressing for her new movie “Minions?”
With the Minions being Yellow and all, Ms.Bullocks’ modern take of incorporating Yellow by way of her unique sunny splash on her Roksanda dress could have ended there but thankfully it didn’t. Apparently Rupert Sanderson is a fan of the beloved creatures because the footwear designer custom made the Oscar winner Minion heels. MINION HEELS, PEOPLE! This entire look is perfection and makes me giddy.
Could her hair be any glossier? <Chandler Bing voice>
Julianne Moore, Chanel- Chanel Fall 2015 Couture Runway
Julianne Moore’s love for Fashion (and the industry’s love for her) clearly goes past just sitting front row at a show to actually being in the show. While this isn’t the Oscar winner’s first Runway appearance (she walked for Tom Ford in his premiere Women’s collection a few years back), this is her first walk for Uncle Karl at Chanel.
Rocking a beautiful deep forest Green long sleeved velvet (I know, in July, but it’s a Fall show) gown, this stunner was paired with an insane celestial diamond encrusted star necklace, matching platforms, and a deep low pony tail. Ms. Moore looks wildly sophisticated and I hope we get a similar look from her on an actual Red Carpet come award season.
Kristen Stewart- Chanel- Chanel Fall 2015 Couture Runway
Ms.Moore’s Runway partner and real life pal Kristen Stewart apparently got Betty White’s outfit because the 25 year old beauty is being aged drastically. Did she do something to offend Uncle Karl and this was her punishment?
Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophia Hunter, Erdem- The Serpentine Gallery Summer Party
There’s nothing particularly awe inspiring here, but their Blue’s are gorgeous and they are just a cute classic couple. Just wanted to share.
Tom Hiddleston, Ralph Lauren- Wimbledon
How do you do a casual yet incredibly well cut and elegant suit that’s event appropriate and highlights everything from your physique to coloring? Just look at Tom Hiddleston’s RL suit. I can’t find a thing wrong here.
Diana Agron, Tory Burch- – Tory Burch Event
Diana Agron’s ruby and gold grommet bias cut dress with sash is very classy and right up the actress’ regal streak she’s been on. Hair swept to one side would have been preferred, just to keep it a tad more youthful.
Channing Tatum, Dolce & Gabbana- “Magic Mike XXL” Australian Premiere
Can’t say I’m much a fan of Channing Tatum’s premiere look. While I understand he’s growing out his hair to play Marvel maverick and card swindler Gambit, he could have styled it a little better. It’s greasy and piecey. Also, his D&G suit is a little too classic and boring for my tastes.
Diana Agron, Miu Miu- Miu Miu Fragrance Launch and Croisiere 2016 Collection
Continuing to have fun in the land of Fashion, Diana Agron wore a long sleeved embellished Miu Miu piece very signature of the Italian house. Adorned heels and metallic clutch completed her sexy but approachable sheer offering.
Jessica Alba, Giambattista Valli- Giambattista Valli Fall 2015 Couture Front Row
Of all Ms. Alba’s looks this week, her Mod Squad-esque ensemble isn’t doing it for me. While I love me an over the knee boot with a mini, I just get Heather Graham in “Austin Powers” from this.
Alice Eve, Schiaparelli- Schiaparelli Fall 2015 Front Row
Did Alice Eve borrow her event inappropriate look from “Troop Beverly Hills?” There isn’t anything I like about this…and she was mean to Caitlyn Jenner, so, big thumbs down.
Maggie Gyllenhaal, Miu Miu- Miu Miu Fragrance Launch and Croisiere 2016 Collection
I’m always happy to see Maggie Gyllenhall on a Red Carpet. Even when she does an all Black look like this, it’s full of texture and interest. Her sexy straight from the office look beyond works for her, but unfortunately her hair and make-up is far too severe. Maybe the flight to Paris was long?
