Hi Everyone,
I hadn’t planned on covering Grammy Fashion. I hadn’t even planned on watching the show until I heard Madonna and Beyonce were going to perform. I mean, how could I not after such news? After the snoozefest that was the BAFTA’s Red Carpet, I took another look at the Grammy’s Red Carpet and had to post.
I don’t know when, but the Grammy’s got chic and fun again. The show itself was kind of painful with the exception of a few performances but at least people brought their Fashion A-Game last night.
So take a look, check out the poll, and enjoy!

Madonna- Custom Givenchy
THIS is the kind of Fashion I want on a Grammy’s Red Carpet: borderline inappropriate and insanely theatrical. Madonna, who never disappoints in any aspect (ever), rocked a custom Black Givenchy Matador inspired outfit on the Red Carpet as well as a Red variation to perform. The Matador inspiration comes from her latest video, “Living for Love” which she also performed last night; the video and her live performance are killer. Worth a watch.
Everything about this is insanely good; the embellishment, the slightly weird pink and black combo, the netted hat, those lace up over the knee screw heeled boots…I love everything. Madonna’s message to us has always been “be yourself,” and that is exactly what she did last night. She brought over the top Grammy’s back.
The ripped 56-year-old knows how to outshine anyone and everyone and just to make sure we noticed her, decided to moon the camera’s. Ugh, my love for her grows…
Gwen Stefani-Atelier Versace
Another one who left me giddy: Gwen Stefani in Atelier Versace. Rocking a way cool jumpsuit, the 45-year-old artist looked super modern in her Couture offering. This is one that translated great in both pictures and TV but particularly great on TV; during her interview with E! I couldn’t get over how amazing she looked. The structured embellished bust is perfectly fit and almost looks like music notes, which was very fitting for Ms.Stefani.
It was also nice to see her sans signature Red lip; I can’t remember the last time I saw her with such low-key make-up. Minimal accessories by way of Red talons and spiked Louboutin’s rounded out a great look.
To perform Ms.Stefani changed into another great Versace look. This time a high slit scarlet number with another embellished bust and hip detail. Again, translated fantastically on all platforms. Here I am loving her signature lip.
She looks gorgeous and beyond in shape in both looks.
Taylor Swift- Elie Saab
I am not always the biggest fan of Taylor Swift’s Red Carpet choices, but, she is rocking this monochromatic Elie Saab gown.
This is a killer look from head to toe (I mean, look at her legs). Ms.Swift’s Fashion evolution has been much better as of late. I was happy to see she chose this gown because as soon as I saw it on the Runway, I was praying someone would give this a great Red Carpet outing. Luckily my prayers were answered.
Ms.Swift has a model body: long legs, thin, and is a size nothing meaning mostly everything looks great on her. What is also so great about this looks is her Stylist incorporated more color via her purple Giuseppe Zanotti platforms and Lorraine Schwartz earrings.
Bravo.
Anna Kendrick- Band of Outsiders
Anna Kendrick brought Masculine Screen Siren Realness to the Red Carpet last night via a gorgeously tailored Band of Outsiders suit. Everyone knows I am a fan of the Masc VS Fem thing and Ms.Kendrick hit the nail on the head here.
Between that deep plunge, smokey eye, and tumbling curls, this is a refreshing change for Ms.Kendrick’s who’s general Fashion MO is on the sweeter side. This is a great presenter look as well; on TV she looked sophisticated and chic. While also very petite, she looks eight feet tall and wildly sexy.
This is one of the best Ms.Kendrick looks to date.
Jane Fonda- Balmain
Jane Fonda gave us Disco inferno Ninja Turtle last night and I couldn’t be happier.
Another one who understands that the Grammy’s should be fun, Ms.Fonda’s metallic Balmain look is borderline ridiculous and that’s what’s so fantastic about it. The fringe necklace is a little distracting (the Lookbook has it tucked in) but something about it still works. This is somehow incredibly age appropriate and cool all at the same time. She defines that phrase “age is only a number.”
A signature Jane Fonda do (and physique), gold Jimmy Choo heels, and a Paula Cademartori round out her look.
Katy Perry- Zuhair Murad and Valentino Couture
Katy Perry donned a fresh off the runway very sparkly Zuhair Murad dress with illusion fringe detail. Besides the fact that Ms.Perry’s body looks smokin’, this is a great Grammy look and a great look for her in general that translated well on all platforms. I don’t even mind her lavender hair; it actually looks really cool with how bedazzled the dress is.
The shoes are a little Prom for me and she could have ditched those earrings, but I can see past it.
Ms.Perry changed into an incredibly chic (and slightly religious feeling…) caped Valentino Couture gown for her performance. This was an appropriate choice for her performance as it was a spotlight on domestic violence, which I found incredibly commendable and applaud the Grammy’s for doing, that didn’t compete with her message.
Nicole Kidman- Mugler
I’m always happy to see Nicole Kidman on the Red Carpet, especially at the Grammy’s. Possibly my favorite Nicole Kidman Fashion moment was at this event by way of her Jean Paul Gaultier mermaid gown a few years ago; it still gives me goose bumps.
Last night Ms.Kidman was on the arm of her very handsome husband Keith Urban in a killer good punky grommet covered Mugler mini. This is exactly what you wear if your husband is a musician and you’re an Oscar winner. She looked cool, sophisticated, chic, and elegant all at the same time. And her legs? Don’t even get me started…
Bondage-y Prabal Gurung heels and a freshly cut lob (which I do wish was out of her face a bit more) enhanced her sexy Rock Star girlfriend look.
Beyonce- Proenza Schouler
Bringing a mermaid feel to the Red Carpet, Beyonce looked beautiful in a very detailed plunging long sleeved Proenza Schouler gown featuring embroidery, tulle, and silk. The gown also gave the illusion of sheerness steering it clear from being a basic Black gown.
While I prefer her killer good Osman jumpsuit for a Beyonce Grammy look, there’s no debate this is a gorgeous look from head to toe. I am also loving her super long mermaid-y locks and those Lorraine Schwartz Emerald earrings. This is effortless and chic look that packs a punch.
Courteney Cox- Marc Jacobs
Like Nicole Kidman, Courteney Cox is nailing the Rock Star girlfriend thing.
In a short and playful embellished Marc Jacobs mini, Ms.Cox’s look is youthful but appropriate. Her styling is on point as well with dark nails, strappy heels, and a simple Swarovski clutch.
I am liking her new hair length as well. Saying it now: that is the new “it” hair length to have. Just you watch…
Lady Gaga- Brandon Maxwell
Fully embracing a va va voom Jessica Rabbit-esque vibe, Lady Gaga was out in full force (as was her bust) in a glitzy Brandon Maxwell low cut high slit gown.
Gaga channeled an Old-Hollywood lounge singer last night walking the Red Carpet with Tony Bennet (their performance was great). Her look totally reflected their fantastic Jazz album “Cheek to Cheek.” If you haven’t, check it out; she has beyond range and sounds amazing with Mr.Bennet. The shade of Grey her hair is should be weird, but somehow, she’s giving off a cool monochromatic vibe rather than Granny.
The Emerald necklace may have been overkill, but she is still working it. At least it’s interesting and not a snooze…
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Haim- Chloe (R) and Stella McCartney (L)
Haim kind of brought it last night. Their overall look was cohesive and cool without trying to hard. The end result was a chic Chloe gown, a well fit Stella McCartney suit, and an appropriately cut out Stella McCartney jumpsuit all with great Beach-y hair.
I hope we get more Fashion moments like this from these girls.
Gwyneth Paltrow- Saint Laurent
Wearing a sequin red hot mini by Saint Laurent, Gwyneth Paltrow skipped the Red Carpet to introduce her BFF Beyonce’s performance last night. Her look was leggy and sexy with complimentary Red and Gold fishnet Loubutin’s.
While we have gotten this look a few too many times from Ms.Paltrow, I was still digging it. I think it was the sexy Rocker-y hair that did it. It enhanced the look overall and was fitting for the event.
