Looks from The Week! Holiday Edition!

Hi Everyone,

Ah, the Holidays. That time of year where you eat and drink way too much ending with drunk you looking yourself in the mirror at 3:45 AM on a Tuesday saying, “You WILL go to the gym in the morning!”

Cut to 9 AM when you’re on your fifteenth Advil and third bacon egg and cheese.

While I was going to dive into the incredible Netflix binge that is “Gilmore Girls: A Year in The Life,” it made me too emotional and I enjoyed it far too much for words so Holiday themed posts won! Keep your eyes peeled for The New York Narrative’s favorite shops in NYC just in time for all your Holiday shopping.

The Holiday’s also mean putting together a slew of looks for every damn party there is. Always looking for outfit inspiration this week’s “Looks from The Week” is Holiday themed!

Enjoy the weekend and all your Holiday events and enjoy the looks starting with what not to wear…

What not to Wear…

Bad1.jpg

TJ Miller-“Office Christmas Party” New York City Premiere

Unless you have an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party to go to (you will), don’t do this.

Salma Hayak, Gucci- British Fashion Awards

Pick one: boobs, stupid sleeves, or the worlds largest necklace.

Or you be like Salma Hayak and choose all three and end up looking like a Gay Pride float.

Marion Colltiard, Dries Van Noten- “Assassins Creed” Paris Photo Call

While not enough Dries gets worn on the Red Carpet, why did this have happen? Dries Van Noten make’s such incredibly beautiful pieces it hurts it doesn’t get enough attention. And then this? THIS? I cannot…Marion just solidified herself a perminant spot on my shit-list.

Maria Menounos, Madewell and TopShop- “Sing” LA Premiere

Flashdance” called…this may be a passible, yet slightly trashy, daytime look but don’t show up to a Holiday event like this. Maria showed up like this to a premiere while Reese wore Elie Saab (see below). Please, don’t make this mistake this Holiday season. End of Public Service Announcement.

Bad2.jpg

Mariah Carey- “Mariah’s World” New York City Premiere After- Party

If you kind of feel like you look like a sparkly stuffed sausage, chances are you do. With so many Gays around her you’d think one of them would have told Mariah no…

Mariah Carey, Michael Costello- VH1 Divas Holiday: Unsilent Night

…apparently all of her Gays are mutes…

Lisa Vanderpump, Gucci- Trevor Project Live 2016

I don’t care that this is Gucci: Lisa Vanderpump looks like a Pilgrim on her way to a funeral.

Holmes.jpg

Katie Holmes- “All We Had” Promo Tour

Katie Holmes apparently went to the Tween section of Bloomies for this. To say it doesn’t fit is an understatement. Also, honey, you should know those heavy chunky bangs don’t work on everyone…

Christina Milian, LaQuan Smith- CURVE Fragrance Launch

When nipple is so clearly visible, it’s a problem. Her boobs are so smushed she looks like she needs to take a trip to Seattle Grace Hospital. Also, who the hell is still wearing Curve fragrances?

Shakira, Stella McCartney- Shakira Fragrance Launch

Not only did she shorten the dress too much, but Shakira also paired it with Barbie extensions and heinous, heinous suede booties. Am I seeing things? Am I? Really, someone please tell me.

Your Daytime to Happy Hour Look…

Lizzie.jpg

Elizabeth Olsen, The Row- Equality Now’s Third Annual “Make Equality Reality” Gala

Need a simple yet chic go-to look? Elizabeth Olsen has you covered. Lizzie’s washed silk habotai The Row tunic with simple gold pendent paired with stovepipe pants and classic Manolo’s is a modern take on all-Black and it’s rather sophisticated. Effortless waves and seasonal make-up keep the look youthful and cool. Take note, this is how it’s done.

Emma Stone, Miu Miu- Saturday Night Live Promo

If your daytime event is a luncheon or presentation of sorts, Emma Stone’s 40’s-esque Miu Miu cap-sleeved ruched tea-length dress with bow detail and firework sequins is an absolute home-run.

Lauren Graham- “Talking as Fast as I Can” Book Signing

Like Ms.Olsen, Lauren Graham’s all black sweater-dress ensemble is an easy go-to. Paired with monochromatic boots and belt, both have texture as to not get lost her all-Black offering. The cutout at the shoulder keeps the look interesting while her crimson polish brings a touch of Holiday spirit.

Olivia.jpg

Olivia Munn, Gucci- “Office Christmas Party” Promo Tour

Olivia Munn’s cream Gucci mini paired with matching oxblood Stuart Weitzman boots and Christian Louboutin bag is a fantastic example of day to night. While a bit va-va-voom for day, it’s sexy without being too much. If you’re going to an event that evening, your ready to go.

Ms.Munn would have gotten extra points had the manicure been dark…

Reese Witherspoon, Elie Saab- “Sing” LA Premiere

Your event a little fancier? While this is a little dressed up for daytime— much more suited for that Happy Hour— Reese Witherspoon’s Eli Saab dress is the perfect Holiday dress. Sequins, fit and flare, and metallic. What more can you ask for? A little more time and effort could be put into the hair though.

Emma Stone, Valentino- Saturday Night Live Monologue

Thinking you’d be wearing this Valentino to the same event as Reese.

When you have a Cocktail  Party…

Jlaw.jpg

Jennifer Lawrence, Sally LaPointe- “Passengers” New York City Premiere

While I’ve had some serious “look at my panties” sheer dress fatigue, I’m incredible drawn to Jennifer Lawrence’s Sally LaPointe slightly Gothic long sleeved ensemble.

Is it because it’s not Dior? The vampy make-up? Those killer Louboutin’s under that fringe? I have no idea,  but if you have a body-oddy-oddy like J.Law, please wear something like this ASAP.

Naomie Harris, Gucci- British Indipendent Film Awards

If you got the balls and love Fashion, look no further than powerhouse Naomie Harris in colorful Gucci grounded by sleek hair and a Black tulle neckline. This 110% is not for everyone, but you’ll make quite a splash.

Jessica Chastain, Elie Saab- “Miss Sloane” New York City Premiere

If dresses do nothing for you, have no fear the jumpsuit is here. From the fit to those glossy bouncy curls, Jessica Chastain is doing minimalism right as there’s nothing boring about what she’s offering up.

All three of these looks are fantastic and will separate you from all the girls in the same J.Crew “cocktail dress.”

MIchelle.jpg

Michelle Williams, Proenza Schouler-“Manchester by The Sea” Holiday Party

Michelle Williams Black and White Proenza dress is another cool-girl way of doing Holiday. While Fashion-forward, it could fly at the stuffiest of Holiday gatherings.

Please note how hot James Van Der Beek still is. Le sigh, le sigh…

Jheni Aiko- PETA’s “Naked Ambition” Exhibit

Couldn’t tell you who the hell Jheni Aiko is, but her Burgundy double breasted velvet well fitted suit is an excellent choice for a Holiday cocktail event. Those multicolored sandals and showing of the belly is a bit of head scratcher, but her delicate jewelry and simple clutch helps.

Adriana Lima- The Wendy Williams Show

Supermodel Adriana Lima also sported a very similar look that is a bit more polished and less trendy. Of the two, this is the one to put on your Pinterest board.

ylie.jpg

Kylie Minogue, Dolce & Gabbana- The Ivy 100 Century Celebrations

Kylie’s boy-meets-girls razzle dazzle D&G ensemble is a perfect Holiday look. Long bangs are also a great Winter hair update; just long enough you don’t always have to wear em’.

Chrissy Teigen -Target Presents “Toycracker”

Chrissy Teigen rarely gets a pass from me, but this Winter White beaded billowy top look is so gorgeous on her.

Emily Ratajkowski, Vince Camuto- Vince Camuto Holiday Party

That plunge is jsut a little too much, but Emily Ratajkowski is showing us how you can be sexy teetering every so slightly on the trash side.

Molly.jpg

Molly Simms – “Office Christmas Party” New York City Premiere

If you’ve gotten yourself knocked up around the Holidays and cannot enjoy all the fun sugary cocktails (that lead to the worst hangover ever), at least you enjoy all those gingerbread and frosted treats guilt free. You also don’t have to look like an actual Christmas Tree, case in point, Molly Simm’s very chic and very flattering bell sleeved Black mini with simple hair and make-up.

Nikki Reed, Ulla Johnson- Ian Somerhalder Foundation Benefit Gala

Not the most exciting, but if you have a more conservative  event Nikki Reed’s Midnight Blue dress with cascading ruffle bodice is just for you.

Kate Beckinsale – “Manchester by The Sea” Holiday Party

If Fashion isn’t your bag but you need something a little dressy, Kate Beckinsale’s off the shoulder Black mini with dramatic sleeves is one way to show you “made and effort.” After all, can’t go wrong with Black tights and classic Black heels.

Not sure who that other Broad is, but her White sleeveless Jumpsuit is also good for some Holiday inspo.

That Evening affair…

untitled-1

Jennifer Aniston, Brandon Maxwell- “Office Christmas Party” New York City Premiere

Yes there’s a different between Evening to Cocktail. Sometimes you need to bring a bit more pizzazz and that’s just what these ladies are doing all while in pants.

Ageless and perfect, Jennifer Aniston looks statuesque in a asymmetrical crepe jumpsuit with large dart detail at the bodice and signature messy locks. While freezing in NYC, Jen’s paired her 70’s inspired look with a satin Celine overcoat worn off the shoulder and a matching Tom Ford clutch— also all those diamonds are to die for.

What you can’t see are her Burgundy Brian Atwood platforms that when peek through are an excellent pop of color.

Jane Fonda, Elie Saab- Equality Now Third Annual”Make Equality Reality” Gala

Another ageless Queen, Jane Fonda could have put Elsa to shame in her powder Blue Elie Saab cape top and crisp pants with silver accessories and signature shag. I’m not quite sure how she does it (help of the worlds best dermatologist?) but anytime Jane hits a Red Carpet she tends to outdo herself. Bravo, gorgeous, this is how you make an entrance.

Kate Beckinsale, Ralph Lauren- British Fashion Awards

Rocking a belt chocker is entirely up to you, but if you want an example of exquisite tailoring for a Menswear inspired suit while still looking incredibly feminine all eyes should be on Ms.Beckinsale. Victor Victoria all the way this Holiday season.
